 Gripfly can also be used to gain height quickly. In fact, I would say it pretty much is the fastest way to gain lots of height.

 I demonstrated this here, where I went up a 45 degree angle with wings and with gripfly. As you can see, the gripfly significantly beats the wings to the finish:
